My name is Benjamin Brooks and I am a recent graduate of the Houston Academy for International Studies in Houston, Texas. Since my ninth grade year, I have been participating in debate and have competed in tournaments held by the Houston Urban Debate League. This past year, the debate topic was about space policy, and throughout the year, I’ve had many discussions about the implications of funding various space programs. One of the major discussions that continued to surface was what the role of the private sector was in the space industry. After a while, my interest in private space began to grow as I learned about the capabilities that private firms had. Luckily, I had the privilege of knowing Charlie Chafer through the urban debate league, so this summer I am interning at his company, Space Services, Inc. The blog posts that I have prepared show a bit about what I have learned about the evolution of the private space industry and give examples of my perspective about it.
